Why the Hurry to Pass Cap & Trade?
Because the evidence is growing… Global Warming is not caused by people. Soylent green is people, but Global Warming isn’t caused by them (us). What a lot of scientists are now saying is that the debate on Global Warming is back, and the “consensus” is shifting. More and more scientists are saying that the climate is driven by the Sun, not people driving.
The Wall Street Journal outlines it well in an opinion piece this morning.
Among the many reasons President Barack Obama and the Democratic majority are so intent on quickly jamming a cap-and-trade system through Congress is because the global warming tide is again shifting. It turns out Al Gore and the United Nations (with an assist from the media), did a little too vociferous a job smearing anyone who disagreed with them as “deniers.” The backlash has brought the scientific debate roaring back to life in Australia, Europe, Japan and even, if less reported, the U.S.
In April, the Polish Academy of Sciences published a document challenging man-made global warming. In the Czech Republic, where President Vaclav Klaus remains a leading skeptic, today only 11% of the population believes humans play a role. In France, President Nicolas Sarkozy wants to tap Claude Allegre to lead the country’s new ministry of industry and innovation. Twenty years ago Mr. Allegre was among the first to trill about man-made global warming, but the geochemist has since recanted. New Zealand last year elected a new government, which immediately suspended the country’s weeks-old cap-and-trade program.
The number of skeptics, far from shrinking, is swelling. Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe now counts more than 700 scientists who disagree with the U.N. — 13 times the number who authored the U.N.’s 2007 climate summary for policymakers.
And the article goes on. Be sure and read it and Stop Cap and Trade Now!
Cap and Trade Could Lead to More Oil Imports
Bloomberg.com has a look into life after Cap and Trade.
June 26 (Bloomberg) — America’s biggest oil companies will probably cope with U.S. carbon legislation by closing fuel plants, cutting capital spending and increasing imports.
Under the Waxman-Markey climate bill that may be voted on today by the U.S. House, refiners would have to buy allowances for carbon dioxide spewed from their plants and from vehicles when motorists burn their fuel. Imports would need permits only for the latter, which ConocoPhillips Chief Executive Officer Jim Mulva said would create a competitive imbalance.
“It will lead to the opportunity for foreign sources to bring in transportation fuels at a lower cost, which will have an adverse impact to our industry, potential shutdown of refineries and investment and, ultimately, employment,” Mulva said in a June 16 interview in Detroit. Houston-based ConocoPhillips has the second-largest U.S. refining capacity.
The same amount of gasoline that would have $1 in carbon costs imposed if it were domestic would have 10 cents less added if it were imported, according to energy consulting firm Wood Mackenzie in Houston. Contrary to President Barack Obama’s goal of reducing dependence on overseas energy suppliers, the bill would incent U.S. refiners to import more fuel, said Clayton Mahaffey, an analyst at RedChip Cos. in Maitland, Florida.
There are so many reasons why this bill should be stopped. We have chronicled here that CO2 is NOT a pollutant. That the Sun is driving our weather. It WAS burning hot. Now it’s not.
Please take some time to call your representative and stop Cap & Trade before your energy bill, and the price of gas, skyrockets!
Nice June in Arizona
The headline at AZCentral.com says, it hasn’t been this nice since 1913:
Possibly the nicest June ever.
It’s that type of thing that is fun to say but hard to quantify.
Thursday, however, was the 14th consecutive day to stay below 100 degrees. That’s the longest stretch of its kind in any June since 1913.
The lower temperatures have allowed people to sleep with windows open and drive with their arms out vehicle windows. Evenings, too, have been spent chatting with neighbors while children or grandchildren play. Those events are not life-changing, but they are, well, nice.
It has been nice! Maybe we shouldn’t Stop Global Cooling Now afterall.
I’m guessing that the computer models that the global warming folk point to when they are predicting gloom and doom didn’t predict nice June’s in the Arizona desert. However it hasn’t been nice in all parts of the state. In the comments after the artice, Robert5195 complains:
It’s been freezing up here in Flagstaff. Can’t wait for the warm-up next week !
30,000 Scientists Want to Sue Al Gore
John Coleman, the Founder of the Weather Channel and currently a Meteorologist in San Diego and 29,999 other scientsists want a debate on so-called “Global Warming,” or “Climate Change.” He appeared on Fox News’ Red Eye to explain why:
June Frost in Canada, “Worst in Memory”
More evidence of a cooler planet as the Sun is quiet and therefore not radiating as much energy. A very unusual deep trough over the western U.S. is giving Tucson it’s coolest start to June in at least 9 years.
In Canada, it’s widespread frost affecting the growing season.
In Manitoba, the frost is the worst in memory for its frequency and area covered, said Derwyn Hammond, the province’s senior agronomy specialist for the Canola Council.
“Certainly (it’s) the worst year I’ve seen,” said Hammond, who has worked for the Canola Council for 15 years.
With deadlines for full canola crop insurance ranging between June 10 and 20 in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Hammond said he expects most farmers will choose not to reseed.
I don’t think the computer models that have been used to predict global warming predicted all of this cold weather. Remember last Winter? Snow in New Orleans, Mississippi and other parts of the south. Early and late season blizzards in the Dakotas. Now a prediction of a year without a Summer in parts of the U.S. this year. Much like Alaska and Chicago last Summer.
Year Without a Summer?
Parts of the U.S. may have just that if AccuWeather.com’s long range expert and meteorologist Joe Bastardi is correct. Here’s a part of an article that appeared on their website today (June 9, 2009):
According to Long Range Expert Joe Bastardi, areas from the northern Plains into the Northeast will have a “year without a summer.” The jet stream, which is suppressed abnormally south this spring, is also suppressing the number of thunderstorms that can form. The ones that do form in areas of the Ohio Valley and West are forming in places with very cold temperatures, which can lead to more electrified thunderstorms than normal this year.
Of course you know where I am going with this, and I think justifiably so. If you adhere to a man-caused global warming theory, shouldn’t the Earth be getting, I don’t know, warmer? If you think the Sun is the main driver of warming, and cooling, then it would make sense the the Earth is cooling now that the Sun is quieter.
Now I will admit. I am not a scientist. But these guys are! I learned enough science in school to know that if your observations do, or don’t, match your theory, then it’s time to change, or not change, your way of thinking. I believe global warming was real. When the Sun was burning hotter in the late 20th century. I also believe that global cooling is real. It’s what is happening now because the Sun is quieter. Greenhouse gases do a play a role in keeping the Earth’s temperature a bit more steady and consistent across the globe, but as far as man tipping the balance, I don’t see it. Man’s contribution to CO2 in the atmosphere is so small as to be negligible. Indeed, the evidence is bearing that out.
Record Coolness in Green Bay
and I don’t mean the Packers! It was only 52 for a high on Saturday, June 6, 2009. That’s the coolest high for the date ever and chilly weather is expected to last through the week.
It was snowing in much of Montana to start June as well. Good thing there is global warming. Think how cold it would be if there weren’t!
First June Snowfall in 60 Years for ND Town
From KXNet.com quotes from an AP story that a couple of inches feel in Dickenson, North Dakota yesterday (6/06/09). It’s the first June snowfall in nearly 60 years and more evidence that the cooler Sun is leading to cooler temperatures.
Game Over. NASA Evidence Says It’s the Sun.

I’ve been saying it for years and blogging it for years. The Old Farmers Almanac said it. Solar Scientists have been saying it. It just makes sense.
Seems that warming (and cooling) on our planet is caused by the Sun! No really:
The inconvertible fact, here is that even NASA’s own study acknowledges that solar variation has caused climate change in the past. And even the study’s members, mostly ardent supports of AGW theory, acknowledge that the sun may play a significant role in future climate changes.
Will this be enough to stop Cap & Trade?
